Bohemian Echo

Bohemian Echo

There was a bohemian hippie type
When people would see him
they would say yikes

His name was was Echo and he did roam
Up and down the hills finding no home

One day in 1968
he saw a sign that
made him irate

Was in a little dive of an eatery
It did not have very pleasant scenery

The sign stated hippies use the back door
He looked at it and said really for sure?

Being a free nonconformist
He said no I will not do this!

He walked straight on in
without even a stumble
He then heard someone say
let’s have us a rumble

A big John Wayne
type of man, in a western hat
yanked on his long hair and
said would ya look at that

With a southern drawl, he said give
ya one chance son
Do what it says or I might
have to get a gun

The hippie looked at him real amazed
He calmly said. “Man you must be crazed”

My name is Echo I’m a peace loving soul
He held out his hand and said love is the goal

The brute of a cowboy
just squinted his left eye
and spit on his hand and said
that ain’t gonna fly

Echo saw him reach into his shirt
Thought to himself
don’t want to be hurt

One big deep breath, Echo took off
like a jet plane
never looked back at
the diner to
see John Wayne

After he reached a safe resting point
Grabbed his knapsack and
smoked him a joint

He smiled to himself said yes I love peace
Glad I’m not stupid or my life would cease

Next time see that sign on a door
I will just pass by, don’t want a war

I liked this but i found it very lyrical. That’s not a bad thing as you could have a country song on your hands

  2. Cubby says:

This would be a great piece to put music to.

Reminds me of the 1971 hit by FIVE MAN ELECTRICAL BAND called “Signs”. Lyrics go:
    Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin’ out the scenery, breakin’ my mind
Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign?
Look it up on YouTube. A great song about prejudice, rules, and such.

The hippie here my friend, is a true Samaritan. A peace lover to the end, Unyielding to the violence of someone.

What happened to the writer’s block?

  6. howanxious says:

people can be so prejudiced that in order to enforce their believes/rules, they can turn to violence..
I liked the ending.. how the man decided to keep peace in a way it doesn’t hurt anyone in any way.
